I hate the frakking friend zone, you know? No girl ever seems to see me as anything besides... I don't know, a kid. Or any guy, for that matter, but I'm so afraid of my own bicuriosity that I don't even want to admit it to myself. I'm not that young.
I haven't had a real date that didn't involve a mistaken identity or being used for some ulterior motive since high school, pretty much.
It just freaks me out sometimes, because I'm afraid I'm going to end up alone.

[He lifts his hand, hesitantly, and brushes a strand of hair back behind Lucy's ear. He looks away quickly,

[Lucy grins when he takes the initiative to touch her. She even tilts her head a bit into the touch.]

Why not? What's the big turn off? You seem like a great guy to me.

Totally the hair. [She laughs, reaches up to run her hand through his hair again.] Well I like you.

[It occurs to her that she probably ought to lay down the rules, things like: Don't get too close, don't expect too much out of me, don't think too far into the future. Not too mention a long list of rules she'll never voice like: don't hurt me, don't push me away when I'm being incredibly annoying. The night has been too nice to worry about rules and she's having too much fun to frame out how things have to be so instead she grins mischievously, glances up at the stage and then back at Neil.]

Clearly we should express mutual liking with a duet. It's the only solution.

[A smile spreads out slowly over his face, and he gives a decisive nod.] That sounds awesome. D'you have anything in mind?

[So many points in his favor that he's willing to actually be a participant in the embarrassment and not just bear witness to it.]

[Ooh. Neil can dig both of those options. He thinks it over for a moment.]

I could go Blackheart for a number. Pretty sure I'd pay money to see you sing Joan Jett.

[And oh god, part of him is still worried that's a weird thing to say, but that part is very much dulled by alcohol right now, so he hardly cares.]

[Not weird, at least not to Lucy. She laughs, grabs his hand and heads for the stage]

[He gives her hand a little squeeze.]

[After signing up, Lucy loiters--and requires Neil to loiter--near the stage. Mostly she's doing the fan thing with the lighter and the whooping. Also she's wrapped both of Neil's arms around her and is kind of doing the lean against him thing. He's become a prop in Lucy's life.]

[Neil stand content, perfectly happy to not be required to take the lead role here. This is the most physical contact he's had from a girl in a decently long time. He enjoys the company and the music, and hums along softly to the chorus of one song that he knows.]

erg...I'm sorry?

[This is nice and Lucy turns her head so that her ear presses against his chest and she can hear the humming along with his heart beating. She misses the warmth and heart beating of being alive. After a few moments of listening to his heart beat like that and the hum in his chest, she turns some more, goes up on her tiptoes slightly as she winds her fingers through his hair and pulls him down into a kiss that's slow, hot and more about being close than it is about anything else.]

[Neil responds more quickly this time. As he returns the kiss, one hand softly strokes her hair, while the other settles hesitantly on her hip.]

[She smiles slightly against his lips and leans in closer, her body flush against his. She's just deepening the kiss, nipping at his bottom lip when their names are called from the stage. She laughs, breaks the kiss a little breathlessly, her forehead still against his.]

Come on, Stud. Let's go sing Joan Jett.

[He hums in discontent, somewhat disappointed that this has to end now for the time being. But singing is good, too. He presses one more quick kiss to her forehead, then takes her hand and steps up on stage.]

[It's a pretty sure bet with Lucy that there will be more of that, provided he's game. The kiss to her forehead makes her stomach flutter because while Lucy loves kissing, that's one of her favorites. It makes her feel safe, loved and somehow protected. Silly Neil, he just keeps racking up the points in his favor.

As for the performance, hopefully Neil sings loud because Lucy is coasting on the flutter feeling not to mention the whole sexy making out feeling and she's decided that she can do that particular growl singing sound that Joan Jett does so well.

[Neil does sing loud-- loud enough to cover up any possible missteps or slips out of key-- but he makes it very clear to everyone that Lucy is the star of this show. He gives her centre-stage, and switches to harmonies on the chorus, very much taking on the sidekick role in this number. When the guitar riff before the bridge kicks in, he throws his arms over his head and gets the audience clapping along with the beat.]

God they're adorable.

[It's like he knows her very, very well. She giggles through most of the riff, hands clapping along with Neil and the audience. When the riff is over, she picks the lyrics back up again.]

[Neil is gratified with the giggling, and in a somewhat-drunk moment of bravery, he winks at her.

When the song ends, he gestures to her with both arms, encouraging the audience to give it up for her. Then he takes a small, humble bow himself, and waves.]

[Okay, the somewhat-drunk moment of bravery is adorable. She grins at him, shaking her head then looks back to the audience. She does a deep, Southern belle style curtsy then looks back to Neil. He should probably be worried or excited judging by the wicked grin on her lips.

She moves over to him, one hand going to the back of his neck, the other to his arm. She tiptoes so she can whisper in his ear.]

Swoony kiss .Follow my lead, don't drop me and make it good.

[Then she tugs him down into a kiss, tugging him down deeper into a sort of dip motion. If he does follow her lead, it'll be a deep dip/swoon kiss, she'll let him take on most of her weight and do the one leg in the air thing. If he doesn't, well it'll look more stiff 'cause she's trying not to fall.]

[Showmanship! That's exciting to Neil and his chronic (but often latent) Look-at-Me Syndrome. Being seen kissing the beautiful girl on stage only sweetens the deal.

Neil promptly does as he is told. He wraps his arms around her and meets the kiss with a quiet determination-- and, even more determinedly, presses himself not to drop her.]

[Oh good. He should get shallow attention-getting gratification out of this as well. The not dropping thing is aided by the fact that she's teeny barely 5'1 barefoot and 100 pounds. The kiss breaks and she laughs, standing up, her arm still up around his neck.]
