11.) [audio.]

Okay, yeah, this sucks. I'll admit it, okay? I hate that nobody ever wants to... no, y'know what? Forget people not ever wanting to do anything, people don't even hardly know I'm there unless I say something. It blows and I hate it and I'm... lonely. Okay? I said it, are you all happy now?

[She reaches over and takes Neil's hand as they start back down the alley.] I think we can get watermelons and paint at City Mart.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds good. Lead the way. [He gives her hand a little squeeze and smiles.]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's good with the leading most of the time.] So what's the worst thing to happen to you in the City?

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[He runs a hand through his hair and thinks.] Probably either the time my ex showed up as memory-projection-ghost-thing for a day, or... [He hesitates.] I... forgot the other thing I was gonna say. [He seems pretty eager to change the subject now.] Uhmm, how 'bout you?

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's not stupid but she won't push the issue. They've all got things they'd rather not talk about. She purses her lips, considering what to say. She's had some really crappy things happen in the City but she's had a lot of good.]

When the City turned into Heaven and Hell. My mom showed up once like that though but it wasn't a projection-ghost thing. More just her voice, calling me over and over like she was lost.

So what's the best thing?

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's rough. The Deities have a shit sense of humour.

[He relaxes now, because this is a more pleasant question to think about.]

Most of it's been good actually. People complain about being here but I think it's better. For starters, I don't hate this.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs a little.] It has to get it's daily dose of misery to keep ticking, I guess.

[She looks over at him and smiles.] No, this doesn't suck and yeah...there are a lot of good things about the City. It's hard to explain that to people sometimes. They just see the bad because the bad is huge and the good is usually...smaller.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, everyone spends so much time trying to figure out how to get out, seems like. I don't really care if I never leave.

[He watches her face carefully as they walk.]

Sometimes the good doesn't seem too small.

One day I'll learn grammar and html

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
[She holds her free hand up.] High five on the never wanting to leave thing. We should have a club.

[When she notices how carefully he's watching her, she ducks her head a little, trying not to let the smile that tugs at the corners of her lips loose. There's a sixteen year old girl in there somewhere that's a lot less jaded than Lucy currently and that girl is doing a little jump up and down 'he likes me' dance. It's all a little much, in a good way, so to break it up she nudges him with her shoulder.]

Did you just call me one of the big good things? 'Cause that's so cheesy. So sweet but so cheesy.

[She bites the tip of her tongue.] You're lucky I don't mind some cheese.

[Or a lot but admitting that is letting that 16 year old girl have a bit too much control.]

[High five enthusiastically met.] Can we have t-shirts, and membership cards and stuff?

[He laughs a little and wince-smiles. It was pretty cheesy, but being around Lucy kind of does that to him sometimes.]

Lucky, yeah.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[She catches that wince-smile and decides it won't do to leave it that way. The problem is that she's not really ready to delve into any discussion because...well lots of reasons. One of them being she doesn't think they're at discussion stage and two if they are, she's not ready to admit that BUT still not comfortable leaving it at a wince-smile so she stops, reaching up to ran her fingers through Neil's hair and pull him down into a kiss. It's a good kiss but not overly long. When it breaks, she grins and goes on like that didn't just happen.]

I think t-shirts and membership cards are a yes. Also maybe a secret hand shake.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[He's reeling from that a little (in a good way, but still)-- but he manages to shake himself out of it to carry on the conversation without too much of a pause.]

Maybe if it does well enough, we can even manage a secret lair.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Well now you've done it. I totally want a secret lair.

[She seems to consider this for a moment, lips pursed to one side and then the other.]

The real question is do we have open membership?

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
It should probably be a really exclusive process, with an interview and a background check. We don't wanna get infiltrated and torn down from the inside.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Super exclusive. [She agrees with a nod as they head inside of City Mart.] With serious consideration before we allow anyone to even begin the grueling hazing type tests required to join.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Neil figures produce first, so he starts heading in that direction.] Ahh, I like that. Then if they can still say the City's better than wherever they came from at the end, we know they deserve to be in.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Good thinking. Lucy grabs a cart to roll along. She plans on stealing it to cart out to the end of town too. They can bring it back later.]

We'll have to come up with a battery of tests. Waking up hung over for a month ought to be a good start.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Arches an eyebrow up at him.] Wake up hung over for a month or make other people do it?

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhhhh. Let's go with the second one.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[She grins at him.] You've never been a frat boy. Yes we can do that, if they want to get into our super duper exclusive club that bad.

[She starts thumping the watermelons on display.]

You do realize it may just be you and me in the super exclusive club hanging out in our bat lair. Sans bats please.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
If it ends up like that, it's just 'cause no one else is good enough for us. I can live with that.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this one is good. [She picks up the watermelon and goes to put it in the cart.]

More room in the super secret lair for us.

[identity profile] illgrowoutofit.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[The watermelon selection process is a completely mystery to Neil, so he'll just trust her.]

Yeah. Two's company, and all that.
