[Observe a very pleased-looking Neil in Lord-of-the-Rings-style garb, waving at the camera before clasping his hands in front of him in a way that he hopes looks dignified.
Today we commemorate the occasion of my birth, occurring on this day some twenty-and-two years ago, or thereabouts.
[He clears his throat.]
As celebration, I am of a mind to search out and take on a dire wolf pup of my own. Together, the two of us will surely be able to retrieve the prize of the day.
All those who would accompany me and offer your services to my cause, I should be glad of your company.
...Oh. And since I've no wish of my own, let the reward go to he or she whom I name bravest warrior in the party.

[ooc: OPEN ACTION, Y'ALL. In brief translation: It's Neil's birthday, and this is effectively a call to arms by a giddy idiot who basically sees this whole thing as LARPing, only more legit! And yes, Neil did indeed have that outfit sitting in his closet. Might be better if you just... don't ask.]

That's a... unicorn. Just a plain unicorn? It doesn't look like an Augean or anything. [If it's investigated then it isn't worrisome anymore.] From the side it looks quite ordinary.

[Handwave.] I mean, it's weird to run into an actual unicorn. It's usually something else that just looks like one. Or rather, the unicorns look like the something else. [Which is interesting enough to make him ease closer for a moment. Curiosity > fear.]

[He stretches out a hand, and the beast sniffs at it. Which makes Neil laugh, startled.]

Oh! [The Doctor starts rummaging around in his trouser pockets and switches to the jacket after a moment, pulling things out with his right and holding them in the left. Candy, a lemon, slinky, and broken little clock later, he produces a reasonably okay looking apple and tosses it at Neil.] Might be bruised a bit but it should be okay.

[He shakes his head and smiles, deciding it doesn't really matter.

He holds the apple out in an flat, open palm, where it is almost immediately snatched up by a set of rather formidable unicorn teeth.]

[He walks around the unicorn, taking in the sheer size of it.]

'Sides, the wolf I'm looking for's just a puppy anyway. You gotta get 'em when they're young so you can raise 'em up to work with you like a... life companion, y'know?

[He makes some sort of 'ahhhh' noise, like... 'ahhhh', and nods.] Well in that case the puppy idea works much better, yeah. I like companions. Companions are good.

Well, you can't really beat undying loyalty. Trust, maybe. But that seems like a subset of the loyalty thing. [Hands in pockets, he pulls his gaze away from the unicorn to glance around.] SO! Fearless leader, whereabouts might we find such creatures?

Yeah. [He turns around in a semi-circle and the back again, surveying the area.] I've seen some frost on the ground, but no actual snow. That's kinda disappointing.

[The Doctor puzzles this over for a few moments.] Maybe if we find the riverbank with a bridge we can just sort of fix things up a bit and it'll work. Frost's a good start.
