Um. No, I don't think there's ever a way out of it. I think that it's mostly for hurt or overlooked feelings? Or maybe not sticking up for them, or something.
I just- god, it'd be so much easier to just say 'Look, Jim, what you said back there hurt my feelings because of A, B, and C, so I'd appreciate if you didn't do it again.' Ugh, girls are stupid.
