I hate the frakking friend zone, you know? No girl ever seems to see me as anything besides... I don't know, a kid. Or any guy, for that matter, but I'm so afraid of my own bicuriosity that I don't even want to admit it to myself. I'm not that young.
I haven't had a real date that didn't involve a mistaken identity or being used for some ulterior motive since high school, pretty much.
It just freaks me out sometimes, because I'm afraid I'm going to end up alone.

[Neil sighs, then takes a deep breath.]

There was Dani, who just thought that she needed to have a boyfriend, and I was the first guy who said yes. She dumped me when some guy who played sports and had an expensive haircut said yes, too.

Tricia or Trisha or something like that... I dunno, got dared or lost a bet or something like that. We went to a movie once, and then she'd fulfilled the bet or dare or whatever, so then that was over.

Vanessa... is a long story. I dunno if I wanna talk about Vanessa, actually. [He clears his throat uncomfortably.] There was an... incident. After that, she didn't wanna talk to me ever again.

This guy from one of my classes set me up with Sarah, and she agreed to go out with me because she thought he was describing someone else when he told her who I was. She seemed really confused and hardly talked to me the whole night, and I didn't find out why until later.

And then there was Knives. And... yeah, you know that story, pretty much.
